Lisa Scott's "The Hot Girl's Friend" is a light breezy read, perfect for those who need an entertaining story that won't make you feel guilty for spending the time doing something else (in my case it was working on my thesis). Jane follows her "hot friend" Miranda and fends off guys that try to approach Miranda with funny excuses. A bartender overhears Jane and is intrigued by the her comebacks. She explains to him that, as "the hot girl's friend," men only approach her to get to Miranda. He decides to help her get a date. The story is predictable but I enjoyed the interactions/dialogue between the characters and the unexpected backstory. It added depth to the characters.

I found "The Hot Girl's Friend" for free on the Amazon. Reading the reviews made me give it a chance and I am glad I did. I'm now a fan of Lisa Scott and purchased her short story collection for the next time I need a fun speedy story to read.

The Hot Girl Friend The Flirts! Short Stories Collections Book 1 edition by Lisa Scott Romance eBooks Reviews

Once I'd read one of Lisa Scott's short stories from the Beach collection, I had to read another one from the Flirts! Romantic Short Stories. The Hot Girl's Friend is such an enjoyable story and the characters are so believable. Jane is the funniest girl because she goes out with her friend Miranda who is about 6 feet tall, and guards against the guys who want to date the beautiful Miranda. Usually the only reason the guys are interested in Jane is because she's with Miranda, and they hope for an introduction.

Jane has some of the most hilarious reasons cooked up to fend these guys off, since Miranda wants a wealthy Australian with a yacht, but she hasn't found him yet. She won't settle for less, so Jane has to keep coming up with excuses for why she can't introduce someone to Miranda. In the meantime, the bartender who Jane talks to might just be interested in Jane, or is it really Miranda he is after?

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story and have downloaded most of the single Lisa Scott stories that I could find, in addition to her novella. For some light, fun and humorous reading, I recommend these stories.
Ladies, you remember your high school days...the flashy looking and the prettier or trendier girls often buddied up with plainer, sometimes brainier ones. You always wondered if this meant that the hot girls were really cool, and unaware of the disparity in their friendships, or if they liked to be around girlfriends they wouldn't have to compete with. Lisa Scott writes from the point of view of the plain girl. This is smart since there are more plain girls than hot ones, so the writer apeals in this work to a larger audience.

To further appeal, the plain girl, who hides her sense of inferiority behind cutting comebacks and witty repartee, catches the attention of the cute bartender. In a plot twist used all too often in regency romance, the two strike up a bargain She will prove to him men are too shallow to appreciate her hidden qualities, while he takes her among his friends to prove to her she's much hotter herself than she realizes. These two pretend they're not all that into each other but end up being 'an item.' The story ends on the supposition they will develop a relationship, marry and live happy and humorously ever after, trading quips. Not rocket science, but fun.
Jane is at the local bar when her friend, Miranda comes in. Jane moves to the dance floor and she and Miranda start the dancing up. Little by little the dance floor fills up and Jane leaves Miranda in the company of two male dancers. This is a common occurrence for the two women. Jane has a habit of screening prospective 'dates' for Miranda. Miranda is a tall sexy blonde man magnet and Jane is the sort of average looking friend. This particular night Jane ends up in conversation with the bartender, Brady. The two banter back and forth for a while and then he makes plans to meet her the next day at his ball game. He tells her that she is just as hot and he bets her a tee shirt that if she tried to meet men in other than a bar with Miranda she would also have lots of dates. The bet is made and now the real fun begins.
This is a well written short story with fun characters and plenty of sharp biting wit. I truly enjoyed this story and will be looking for more from this author.
This sassy short story packed a fun punch. It is the second one I've read by Lisa Scott and I just love what she can do with a short story format.

Jane is the consummate best friend of the beautiful vivacious girl. Jane's got her own looks and sparkle going on, but she can't see it and feels constantly eclipsed by her friend. While out together at a bar, Jane is doing her job helping to fend off unwanted guys from Miranda, when she finds herself enjoying the time spent with the bartender, Brady. He's fun and helps her and better yet, he doesn't seem to want Miranda.

Brady sets out on a quest to show Jane that she's got what it takes to get a guy by taking her bet that he can't find someone nice who wants to date her. Jane takes that bet and starts out on this new venture with Brady. She could have told him that no guys would measure up because he was around, but she is afraid to find out for sure that he really is only being friendly.

As I said, this was a fun read. Jane is the narrator and it is obvious from the get-go to the reader that she isn't catching onto the clues well when it comes to Brady. It was cute to discover that the flirtatious Miranda isn't as shallow as she seems. I really enjoyed watching how Jane and Brady's chemistry worked so well.

It was a fun, feel-good happy read that I recommend to someone to fill a nice little slot in their busy day.
