This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. While some publishers have opted to apply OCR (optical character recognition) technology to the process, we believe this leads to sub-optimal results (frequent typographical errors, strange characters and confusing formatting) and does not adequately preserve the historical character of the original artifact. We believe this work is culturally important in its original archival form. While we strive to adequately clean and digitally enhance the original work, there are occasionally instances where imperfections such as blurred or missing pages, poor pictures or errant marks may have been introduced due to either the quality of the original work or the scanning process itself. Despite these occasional imperfections, we have brought it back into print as part of our ongoing global book preservation commitment, providing customers with access to the best possible historical reprints. We appreciate your understanding of these occasional imperfections, and sincerely hope you enjoy seeing the book in a format as close as possible to that intended by the original publisher.
The farm that won't wear out Cyril G 18661919 Hopkins Books
An interesting book about agricultural science around the turn of the last century (1900). The title of the book says it all really - an examination as to plant nutrition and how to prevent loss of fertility through poor farming practices and how to restore fertility in depleted lands. This is written at a time in American agriculture when poor use of the land was beginning to take it's toll and right at the start of 'better living through chemistry'; both of which lead to our current system of agriculture. The Farm that Won't Wear Out was first published in The Country Gentleman.
Contents include:
Chapter 1: What Goes to Make up Permanent Fertility
Ch. 2: Nitrogen Problems and its Economical Solution
Ch. 3: Phosphorus: The Master Key to Permanent Agriculture
Ch 4: Permanent Soil Fertility.
These topics are as useful today as it was a hundred years ago.
One of the things I found most interesting about this book is that instead of just three vital nutrients for plant health (N-P-K) that we have today, the author recognizes seven soil elements that are essential to plant growth.
Useful book for farmers and historians alike.
The kindle version has no pictures, is not easy to navigate and has no interactive menu. There are a few transcription errors, but nothing that impedes legibility.

The farm that won't wear out Cyril G 18661919 Hopkins Books Reviews
This is a book you can read in a day. I would have given it a higher rating if the print was easier to read. It actually is the reprint of the original. Sorry, for that I give it four stars. I heard about this book from Eliot Coleman. A very interesting read about organic experiments done at the turn of the century. How is it that all this has not been revealed in agricultural texts? Most likely because it would cut in to the profit streams of big chemical companies. Sh-h-h. This will be our little secret.
